Event Horizon Hong Kong is the most extensive public art installation ever seen in the city. The 31 sculptures looking out into space installed at both street level and building tops around a kilometre wide zone across Hong Kong’s Central and Western districts have been a part of the Hong Kong cityscape, on show until 18 May 2016.

Created by the internationally acclaimed British artist, Sir Antony Gormley, this ambitious installation has generated a wide range of dialogue and debate since it was launched on 19 November 2015. It not only encourages the pubic to question how the human nature responds to our man-made built environment, but also gives the community some food for thought.

Riding on the completion of this tremendous installation project, the British Council, presenter of Event Horizon Hong Kong, has invited an unparalleled panel of speakers to share their views on the future development of public art. The discussion will offer a unique insight into the Event Horizon story, as well as the many challenges that we have encountered along the way.  The panel will discuss how we could interpret the diverse responses towards public art, what the key learning and lessons are, and how we can encourage public engagement in the arts, especially in the public urban realm.

Let’s explore what and how we could do differently to contribute to the cultural life of Hong Kong.

In partnership with Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association, the panel discussion is a pre-2016 Cultural Leadership Summit event.
