Overview

Fundraising for the arts is part of the sustainable development action plan for any arts organisation and non-profit organisation in the world today. In decades, fundraising actually made one essential discipline in the U.S. and many European countries, it doesn’t only help bringing in extra income for the arts organisation, but also bridging the organisation to different stakeholders and gaining recognition and support from them. In fact, a successful fundraising campaign requires advanced marketing skills with a solid community relationship building.

Facing all the challenges of the 21st century, arts managers are asked to take an active approach in fundraising by making use of the market information, data management as well as staying on top of the latest trends for an effective fundraising campaign. So, what is fundraising for the arts? How do we organise a fundraising campaign? In the upcoming talk, Vivien will share with us the concept of fundraising and her tips on managing fundraising campaigns with some real case studies.

Vivien has been active in the arts scene for over 20 years and she is regarded as one of the early forerunners in development in the Hong Kong's art scene. Vivien joined the Hong Kong Arts Festival Society in 1991 as the head of the Development department and was appointed as Head of Institutional Advancement of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003. Since 2011, Vivien has been lecturing on Fundraising and Development for the Arts at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Shanghai.

As the outbreak of the novel coronavirus continues, the workshop will be live streamed on Zoom. We hope everyone stays positive in this low season and keeps improving ourselves for the upcoming challenges.
