Overview

During Schubert’s lifetime, events to celebrate the music of this musical genius were often held in Vienna and around Europe. These events, which included the participation of sometimes the composer himself and other important figures such as Beethoven, are called “Schubertiads”.

While it is the 225th birthday of the composer, Cong Quartet would like to take the spirit of the Schubertiade, and prepared concert-programmes with all Schubert’s chamber music works.

This concert features the cello, an instrument which Schubert's father played. The international award-winning Cong Quartet locally from Hong Kong will perform the Quartettsatz in c and the early String Quartet No.4 in C major, D.46, and lastly the famous Schubert String Quintet in C with guest cellist, Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and winner of the Sphinx Competition, American cellist Sterling Elliot.

Already in his young career, Sterling has made appearances with such major orchestras as the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, the Dallas Symphony and many others. Last summer, he performed the Brahms Double Concerto with Gil Shaham in the Aspen Music Festival and he also made his German debut performing chamber music with Daniel Hope. This will be his very first apperance in Hong Kong.
