Daniel Lik-chi Lau

Daniel Lik-chi Lau is a composer and baritone from Hong Kong. He is a member of Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH).

As a composer, Daniel is inspired from the most miscellaneous events to current affairs. He aims to integrate theological beliefs and thoughts, to address social phenomena and issues, and to emerge Cantonese language characteristics in his compositions. With the reflective and dramatic expressions, as well as the romantic and pastoral elements in his compositions, he hopes to interact and connect with people through his works as he believes music serves a function to echo with the society and to record the age of the time. His compositions have been played by BBC Singers, RNCM Orchestra, Piatti String Quartet, Cong Quartet, Fuloo Fuloo Flute Quartet, Hong Kong Youth Choir, Hong Kong Wind Kamerata etc.

Daniel is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). He graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) with a Bachelor of Arts in Music where he studied classical vocal performance under the tutelage of Mr. Caleb Woo Wing Ching. His recent solo performances include Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Missa in Angustiis and Martin Palmeri’s Tango Gloria.

Daniel has also taken part in numerous staged music performances, including HKIAC x Actors’ Family “Cinematic Memories on Train No.5” (Musical), Ponte Singers and Orchestra “East Side Story” (Musical), The Mills “Living up to HER” (Dance immersive Theatre) and Hong Kong Arts Festival x Neworld Theatre “King Arthur’s Night” (Drama). Meanwhile, he performed as a narrator in several occasions in collaboration with MIT Saxophone Ensemble from Taiwan and Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra.
