Yuen Man Lam, Lauren

Lauren Yuen is a percussionist, jazz vibraphonist and music educator based in Hong Kong. She performs music ranging from orchestral, contemporary, to jazz. Lauren is the Co-founder and director of Hong Kong Percussion Performance Centre.

Lauren co-founded M.A.R.B.L.E.S. Percussion and Vertex Percussion Duo in 2020. She is an Associate Artist of Toolbox Percussion, and has recently toured to Tianjin Juilliard School and Japan. Lauren is a freelance musician of Opera Hong Kong & Hong Kong Strings.

Lauren recently performs frequently as a jazz vibraphonist. In 2023, she gained reputation by curating "PERCUZZ!!", a percussion ensemble x jazz concert supported by the HKADC, covering her own arrangements. Her recent jazz exposures also includes her quartet shows ( Lauren Yuen Quartet ) with Bowen Li, Samuel Chan & Nelson Fung; "Joyce Cheung & the Latin Experience" in Freespace Jazz Fest ; and "Women in Jazz" Concert with Nicholas Bouloukos in 2022. Lauren was awarded the "Best Soloist Award" in Hong Kong Youth Jazz Collective. Her band was also awarded the "Best Band Performance Award", for performing her arrangement of David Friedman's "Texas Hoedown". In 2021, Lauren's performance of Nathan Daughtrey's Vibraphone Concerto was chosen by RTHK Radio 4 and broadcasted on "Student Concert Hall". In 2020, she participated in the So Percussion Summer Institute with scholarships. In 2019, She performed with Li Biao Percussion Group in Hong Kong Arts Festival. In 2018,
she performed Edgar Varése's "Ionisation" with percussionists of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lauren was awarded a Bachelor of Music ( Honours ) Degree at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She majored in Percussion and studied Percussion with Sophia Woo Shuk-Fai, and Timpani with James Boznos. She started learning jazz vibraphone under the tutelage of Chien Chien Lu in 2020, and has become Hong Kong's first Jazz Vibraphonist.
