A Christmas Carol

A brand new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novella by Candice Moore. Full of comedy, drama, songs and the joy of Christmas!

Jacob Marley dies at the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve. While some mourn his passing, his business partner, Ebenezer Scrooge, does not shed a tear. His only concern is to bury Jacob as quickly and cheaply as possible and continue with the business of making and counting money. Scrooge is unkind to everyone he meets. He refuses to spend Christmas with his nephew, Fred, he will not to donate money to charity to help the poor and he cuts the wages of his loyal Clerk, Bob Cratchit. Scrooge dislikes everyone and he particularly dislikes singing. So the carol singers in the London streets also suffer when he is nearby.

When Scrooge arrives home that night, he is visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley. He has risen from the dead to warn Scrooge that if he does not change his ways he will be forever doomed to walk the earth with no peace or quiet. He also tells him he will be visited by three ghosts. The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. Scrooge is desperate to avoid seeing the ghosts, but Jacob makes it clear that he has no choice.

The Ghost of Christmas Past arrives in a blaze of light and song and takes Scrooge on a journey through Christmases from his past. Scrooge sees himself as a lonely child, an apprentice clerk and a young man more in love with money than his fiancée. The Ghost of Christmas Present slinks in and shows Scrooge Bob Cratchit’s family. They are poor and troubled by illness. This ghost also takes him to see his nephew Fred’s Christmas celebrations. Finally, The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come scares Scrooge the most by showing him visions of his own death.

When he wakes up on Christmas Day, Scrooge is relieved to be back in his own bed and himself again. The three ghosts have taught Scrooge the error of his ways. He is full of relief, joy and excitement. He buys the biggest turkey he can find for the Cratchit family, he apologises to people he has been rude to and finally goes to spend Christmas Day with his nephew, Fred.
