The Bassoonion

Founded in 2005, The Bassoonion is the first-ever bassoon ensemble group established in Hong Kong. Its mission is to promote bassoon to the general public and enhance their musical appreciation and knowledge of bassoon music through performances and academic workshops. The core members have received professional music training and graduated from world-renowned music institutions and conservatories in Europe and the United States, and are active in professional orchestras in Hong Kong and worldwide.

The Bassoonion has presented concerts at the main venues in Hong Kong. Overseas engagements include recitals in Granada ( Spain ) and Tokyo ( Japan ), invited by the International Double Reed Society in 2018 and 2015, performance at the 2nd Asian Double Reed Conference in Chiayi ( Taiwan ) in 2013, as well as a recital with Thailand Double Reed Club in Bangkok ( Thailand ) in 2016. The group has also been frequently invited to perform in the Macau Band Fair and Hong Kong Band Fair.

Apart from performances, The Bassoonion regularly presents workshops and masterclasses to bassoon players in Hong Kong, providing performance platforms for the musical development of the young bassoonists. Past workshops and masterclasses are organized in collaboration with artists including Lorelei Dowling, Michael Garza, Benjamin Moermond, Chin Hing Sang and Adam Treverton Jones.
