Founded in 2013, Chinese Orchestra, Cultural Association, the University of Hong Kong is a non-profit organisation run by students at the University of Hong Kong. Its mission is to raise the recognition and deepen the understanding of Chinese music among the public, and to promote Chinese music to everyone.
The Orchestra aims to promote Chinese music by cultivating the interest of our students and providing a platform for students to showcase their musical talents. Currently, the Orchestra has around 70 members, many of whom have won numerous awards in various music competitions and are active in a wide range of musical fields.
Since its establishment, the Orchestra has organised various music promotional activities and performances, including collaborative projects with various organisations and music groups outside the University. As a member of the Hong Kong Joint University Chinese Orchestra, the Orchestra has maintained close exchanges with the Chinese orchestras of other tertiary institutions, such as co-organising joint university performances. At the same time, with its commitments to promoting Chinese music to the public, the Orchestra holds large-scale performances every year and actively participates in joint music activities organised by different faculties, departments, and student societies within the University.
In the future, beyond promoting traditional Chinese music, the Orchestra will continue to experiment with a diverse repertoire of music in different genres, and to present the exciting possibilities of Chinese music in the new era through the fusion of various musical forms.
