Baritone
Albert Lim is one of the most active baritones in Hong Kong. Lim is trained at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, from which he received the Advanced Diploma and Bachelor of Music degree. Lim was admitted to the Royal College of Music in London, graduating with distinction from the Postgraduate Diploma programme in vocal studies.
Lim made his debut as a soloist in 1997, performing Mozart’s Great C Minor Mass, K.427 with the Hong Kong Bach Choir. Since then, Lim has appeared regularly with the group. He has also collaborated with various vocal ensembles, namely the Hong Kong Oratorio Society, the Learners’ Chorus. His most recent performance was given in conjunction with the Chinese University Chorus, as part of the 330 commemoration of J.S. Bach as well as a featured event of the 2015 Singfest in Hong Kong.
With his remarkable stage presence and fine lyrical singing, Lim has appeared frequently in opera and concert performances presented by Opera Hong Hong. Lim’s repertoire include Figaro from Le Nozze di Figaro, Papageno from Die Zauberflӧte, Escamillo from Carmen, Marcello from La Bohème , Ben from Menotti’s opera, The Telephone, and Umeya from Huang Ruo’s opera, Dr. Sun Yat Sen. In 2011, Lim was invited to perform with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, representing Hong Kong in the Shanghai EXPO. In 2012, Lim appeared as the featured soloist in the Faure Requiem concert with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta He also made solo appearances in the Hong Kong Philharmonic’s educational concerts in 2013.
A highly versatile singer, Lim is equally at home in the pop music scene. He has shared the stage with Cantopop star, Hacken Lee, and Taiwanese singer, Jeff Zhang, in concerts presented by the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Lim has also been engaged to record Cantonese vocal covers of Disney animation movies, including Lady and the Tramp, Enchanted and Lava. As a devoted Christian, Lim has taken part in the recordings produced by ShareHymns Association Limited, a non-profit making Christian music organization in Hong Kong.
In addition to his stage appearances, Lim keeps a busy schedule giving vocal tuition to students at all levels. Lim is currently faculty member of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also the choral conductor of the Hong Kong Children Choir and the Assistant Chorus Master of Opera Hong Kong.
