Overview

A new generation of Hong Kong dance artists are now shaping Hong Kong’s contemporary dance scene. The nine captivating works showcased at the JOCKEY CLUB New Arts Power have been performed overseas, brought to the international arena by HKADC. These artists demonstrate the vibrancy of Hong Kong’s modern dance and are promising to lead the dance scene in future.

Ivanhoe Lam
ODDS
Individuals cross each other’s paths, a connection takes place.
The question is, however, whether or not we realise its existence.
Chun-ho Ivanhoe Lam, a multi-disciplinary choreographer, collaborates with Wan-wa Shirley Tsoi and Wei-wei Lim, two multi-talented performers, and other team members – Swiss composer Benjamin Ryser, sound artist Fabian Gutscher, multi-media designer Oliver Shing, and stage designer Jason Wong – to forge an orbit within the soul that allows for introspection.

Justyne Li and Wong Tan-ki
Galatea X
In Greek mythology, sculptor Pygmalion falls in love with his own creation Galatea, a statue. Breathing life into his statue, the sculptor is at once being shaped by his own creation. Such intriguing transformation is irreversible, so is the metamorphosis of this dance work.

Chen Kai
Line II
Line II explores the “geometric human body” in relation to its “linear movement”. Gun shu, a martial performing skill in traditional Peking Opera, has been incorporated to the piece to illustrate the nature of linear distances between men and objects.
