Patrick Lui is an award-winning pianist, composer, arranger, and producer. Graduated from the Berklee College of Music, he won the prestigious Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards for Jazz Composition in 2021.
Founded the Patrick Lui Jazz Orchestra in Hong Kong, Patrick led his band to perform at various music events, including the Freespace Jazz Fest 2019-2021 presented by WKCD, “Jazz In French Films’ at the French May Festival presented by Alliance Française, the annual conference of the Jazz Education Network 2021 in USA and “The Present – Jazz Festival of an Inward Journey” of the LCSD’s “Jazz Up” series where he premiered works that blended jazz and traditional music. In 2021, Patrick was invited by the City Chamber Orchestra Hong Kong to perform legendary jazz pianist Michel Camilo’s works as a soloist.
As an active composer, Patrick contributed to the scores for three feature films including “The Bounty”, “This Is Not What I Expected”, and “Chasing The Dragon”, and composed music for television programs and theatrical works for Radio & Television Hong Kong and Hong Kong Dance Company.
In the pop music field, he is a frequent collaborator with RubberBand. The album ‘Easy’, which they co-produced in 2012, was awarded the Album of The Year by Commercial Radio Hong Kong ( CRHK ). In 2020, Patrick co-produced another album “i” for RubberBand, featuring his big band arrangements. In 2022, the song ‘Ciao’, again co-produced and arranged by them, won the Song of The Year award by CRHK. He also served as band leader for Yoyo Sham’s concert “Home Is…”.
