Overview

The Rite of Passage of a golden boy in Hong Kong

Renowned novelist Martin Booth came to settle in British colony Hong Kong in the 50s when his father was assigned here by the British army. His childhood coincided with how this city grew to be one of the most prosperous metropolises in the world. He has a direct experience of East meeting West. In 2002 he was diagnosed with brain cancer, which induced him to write a memoir of his unforgettable relationship with this Eastern gem. He died shortly after he finished Gweilo.

Artistic director Wu Hoi Fai, together with the French-Finnish actor Micah Sandt, are going to deliver this fascinating story along side with other autobiographical materials collected. In 2016, people were waiting outside the HKRep Black Box to see whether they might get a seat and watch Gweilo. And NOW, we are happy to announce that Gweilo is back! Ready to explore British colonial Hong Kong in the 50s? Get a ticket now and be mesmerized by this critically acclaimed solo performance of Micah Sandt.

*Performed in English and Cantonese with Bilingual surtitles.
