With the aim of promoting Chinese culture and arousing students' interest in Chinese music, the King's College Chinese Instrumental Group was founded in 1968. The Group has provided an opportunity for students to approach and learn Chinese musical instruments. As the Group grew day by day, the number of members rose year by year. In 1998, the King's College Chinese Instrumental Group was renamed as the King's College Chinese Orchestra. Over the past half-century, alumni and students have collaborated to make the Orchestra thrive, continuing to kindle the Orchestra's spirit among Kingsians. With the school's strong support, the Orchestra participates in major inter-school music competitions every year, winning glory while nurturing talent.
In addition to learning from the fellow teammates, members of the Orchestra enjoy opportunities to perform with local schools and overseas orchestras. Examples include the recent tours to Beijing and Taiwan. Throughout the years, the King's College Chinese Orchestra has staged well-received public performances and earned compliments from the public.
