Concept
Sound, in its ephemerality and intangibility, allows us to re-imagine and re-create our surroundings through listening. By engaging with the sound around us, we allow ourselves the possibility of challenging the socio-political structures in which we are embedded.
Hong Kong Arts Centre would invite Australian sound artist Alexandra Spence to host a programme presenting an experimental performance, installation preview and short artist talk.

Programme
10th June 2019
1. Performance
During the performance, Alex will use field recordings, text and objects, exploring what it is to ‘know’ and to ‘be’ in a place, and how sound and the act of listening can inform this sense of ‘knowing’.
Duration: 20 minutes
2. Artist Talk & Installation Preview
Alex will share the creative concepts of her works on the performance and on her buried tape loops project. She will also discuss the experience of her stay in Hong Kong.
buried tape loops is an ongoing project in which Alex creates 7-second tape-loop recordings, and buries them in the earth in the location at which they were recorded. This time, instead of burying in the ground, Alex has submerged the tape loops in the ocean that surrounds Hong Kong. Drawing upon acoustic-ecology, psycho-geography and phenomenology, this work an attempt at collaboration, asking and prompting a place to affect its own sounding.
Duration: 30 minutes | The Artist Talk will be conducted in English
