Overview

Creative Workshop on Performance (Free admission, registration is required)

This 6-session workshop will allow you to hone your skills in creativity, contemporary arts practice, and performance. Contemporary dance artist Yang Hao is calling for arts enthusiasts to join him and explore the possible aesthetic interplay between contemporary dance and other art forms.

Intensive programme comprises discussion, learning and experimentation, and welcomes creative souls from diverse backgrounds. Participants will be guided to unleash their very own unique potential to express themselves through body movement, voice and narrative. Each person will work directly with tutors to develop his or her own performance practice, experimenting with identity, performativity and exploring the possibilities of interdisciplinary working.

• Everyone aged 18 or above, who is interested in theatre or performing arts, or working in arts sector is welcomed. Experienced in creation is preferred.
• This workshop will be conducted in Cantonese and English. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
• Physical movements will be required. Participants are advised to consider their physical condition before making reservation. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
• There are six sessions in total. Participants will be captured in photos or video-recordings every session. All photos and videos will be used for academic, promotion and educational purposes only. By registering to participate in this programme, each participant is deemed to have agreed to the arrangement.
• The event will adhere to the latest health and safety regulations and enforce social distancing measures.

Tutors: Yang Hao, Mary

About Artist Yang Hao
Yang Hao was born in Chongqing, and based in Hong Kong. He began his dance training in Beijing at the age of 12. He has performed in China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, Guangzhou Song and Dance Troupe and Guangdong Modern Dance Company, etc. In 2007, he has received a full scholarship to study at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (BFA) and later joined the City Contemporary Dance Company as dancer from 2009-2012. Since 2014 Yang started to collaborate with producer Alice Rensy. In 2017, they were awarded the Cultural Exchange Grant from Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) to perform their work at Guangdong Dance Festival and produced Variation for A4 Art Museum. Yang and Rensy’s recent research twills contemporary dance and stand-up comedy together. Legend of Hao Hao, commissioned by Jockey Club New Arts Power, premiered in 2018. This work has been selected by 1862 Theater in Shanghai through HKADC’s “Performance in Mainland Scheme”. It has also received Cultural Exchange Grant from HKADC. Yang is currently studying for an MFA degree in Creative Media at the City University of Hong Kong, specialising in cross discipline collaborations in performing arts.

About JOCKEY CLUB New Arts Power
JOCKEY CLUB New Arts Power, launched in 2017, is an annual Arts Festival presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council with the funding support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. The Festival brings together established and emerging local artists to produce creative, approachable and engaging arts experiences for all. Over the past four years, 43 arts groups have participated in the Festival. Together they produced 90 live performances and a remarkable number of major exhibitions. Uniting art groups and various organisations from the social welfare, academic and commercial sectors, the festival held over 550 community and school events, reaching some 460,000 participants. JOCKEY CLUB New Arts Power 2021 / 2022 is held from September 2021, featuring a total of 6 selected programmes that include dance, theatre and music, as well as presenting more than 100 community and school activities.
