Beijing-born Ling Hui met Hong Kong-born Julie Kuok at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts where they formed the "HKDuo" in 2000. "HK" is also the combination of their last names. Their contrasting personalities result in exciting chemistry and a colorful merger of tones and interpretation in music ranging from classical music, jazz, to their own compositions and transcriptions.

Past activities have included being Artists-in-Residence of RTHK Radio 4, concerts celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the City Hall, the 150th Anniversary of Debussy and the 30th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Piano Music Association. They have played two piano concertos withthe City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and with the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra. They have had two successful tours in China including performances in Guangzhou, Beijing, Changzhi, Weifang and Chongqing. They have also appeared in the Waterford Arts Festival in Ireland, the Grand Asian Piano Concerts in Korea and Malaysia, the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, the 2nd Yichang, China Yangtze River Piano Music Festival and Shenzhen International Piano Festival.
