Detail:
Rüdiger from Switzerland is a creator of numerous new acoustic musical instruments of various kinds.
Starting from his formation as a violin builder, he experimented on basic sound laws, inventing unique types of string instruments, either to be plugged or bowed.
Later he investigated the field of wind instruments, developing flutes of various tonalities and specially the ”Chalumeau”, an archetypal handcrafted clarinet with no metal keys, but holes that should be closed by the legs!
The discovery of unique kinds of mallet instruments from metal, wood and stone followed.
As a music therapist he had the opportunity to “test” the properties and impacts of his creations, their healing forces - with great success.
His activities include sound healing spaces, performances, instrument building workshops, lessons, lectures and Implementation of indoor and outdoor sound sculptures.
Two main principles characterize his musical work:
1. The encouragement of non musicians to rely on their intuitive creative abilities (by creating Instruments that require a minimum of technical skills)
2. Seeing the essence of music in its property of connecting and communicating … humans with themselves, with each other, with nature and cosmos
Beauty and simplicity, using only precious natural materials and a dedicated craftsmanship… are providing the unique “aura” of his instruments.
Yet the base of Rüdiger‘s creations is his passion and skills for intuitive music making; he is at home with all kinds of new and classical instruments - starting with the guitar, with which he inhaled the spirit of Improvisation the first time at the age of 13.
