Overview

[ Fringe Programme - Wong Chuk Hang Wanderlust ]
Artists Li Ning and To Kai On Benny, together with arborist Kit Yeung, will lead participants on a journey along the Southern District, exploring the various facets of nature and history in our city. The itinerary begins at the thousand-year old Rock Carvings at Wong Chuk Hang and continues with visits to the Wong Chuk Hang Old Village, World War II ammunition depot, Lady Clementi’s Ride and the waterworks monuments, among other landmarks associated with Hong Kong's history and myths.

Artists will share the inspirations and creative insights behind their artworks in the Marginal Notes exhibition along the way. Immerse yourself in nature, open your senses, and discover hidden treasures in the Southern District.

 

- The programme is conducted in Cantonese
- Participants must be aged 18 or above
- Participants will travel outdoors between various locations. Participants are advised to consider their physical condition before making reservation. We apologise for any inconvenience this may caused
- Comfortable clothing is recommended
- For the event at night time, participants may prepare for the suitable equipment

About Li Ning
Having accumulated a library of self-created visual motifs throughout the years, in his print art Li Ning collages these motifs with his drawings, and uses linocut to create visually stunning black-and-white sci-fi landscapes populated by imaginary extra-terrestrial beings.

Solo exhibitions include Welcome Jon Looka (Gallery EXIT, 2022), Inhale (Yrellag Gallery, 2021), and HKOP Awardees in Printmaking Exhibition 2019-2020: Flipped Trip (Hong Kong Open Printshop). Group exhibitions include Meet You There (SC Gallery, 2022), ART NAHA – Urban Exhibition (Art Initiative Okinawa, 2022, Japan), Art Basel Hong Kong (Gallery EXIT, 2022), 20/20 Hong Kong Print Art Exhibition (Hong Kong Heritage Museum, 2021).

Born in 1992 in Hong Kong, Li graduated with a BFA from the Hong Kong Art School in 2019, majoring in painting, and currently lives and works in the city.

About To Kai On Benny
To’s artistic practice revolves around hypothetical archeology. Inspired by ancient mythologies, totems and statues, To forges fictional ancient relics out of modern popular culture using materials from sci-fi animations and movies, inviting the viewer to look back at contemporary society and civilisation from the perspective of future people.

Solo exhibitions include ARCHAEOLOGY IN RPG vol.1 (Yrellag Gallery, 2021), TKOB-24-25YRS-OBJs (Mist Gallery, 2021), and Dimensional Civilisation Archeology Project 2.0 (Art Basel Hong Kong, Para Site, 2022)

Born in 1994 in Hong Kong, To obtained his Higher Diploma in Fine Art (Photography and Ceramics) as well as the RMIT BA degree (Ceramics) at the Hong Kong Art School.

About Kit Yeung
Kit Yeung works full-time in the financial technology sector and is also a community advocate, ISA registered arborist, and trail runner. He is passionate about conserving local urban cultural heritage and guides the public in understanding history, natural environments, and community connections through running, hiking, and outdoor activities.

About Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC)
HKADC's new premises, located at the upper ground floor and 5th to 7th floors, 39 Yip Kan Street, Wong Chuk Hang, will hold its opening in July 2023. Facilities including arts studios, a multi-purpose arts space "SHOWCASE", an arts information centre, and the permanent administration office of HKADC, will gradually go into operation this year. HKADC is delighted to celebrate the official opening of the new premises with a series of exciting arts programmes from July 2023 to early 2024, including exhibitions, performances, workshops, docent tours, and various art activities, held within the new venue and the surrounding Wong Chuk Hang district, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Hong Kong arts.

Leveraging the rich artistic spaces and facilities within the new premises, the programme aims to showcase the creativity and talent of local artists. Through interactive, educational, and innovative arts and cultural activities, the programme seeks to foster connections among individuals from all walks of life. All are welcome to join our celebration, discover the richness of Hong Kong's art scene while exploring the new site together.
