Dr Julia Chen's started vocal lessons with Megan Rutledge at the Royal Conservatory of Music, pursued concurrently with her undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto. Following her return to Hong Kong, she furthered her training under the tutelage of Madam Ella Kiang and obtained ATCL, LTCL, and FTCL from Trinity College London. In recent years, she also continued her vocal studies under the guidance of Terence Goff from New York. Julia made her operatic debut at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre in 2009, and her overseas performance debut in Milan in 2011. In 2014 and 2023 she gave two charity concerts at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, benefitting homeless children in mainland China and Orbis's paediatric eyecare program in Mongolia, respectively. Julia has been invited to perform in numerous concerts, including regular appearances with the Ella Kiang Singers and Diocesan Girls' School alumni choir. Her recent engagements in 2023-25 include performances of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Mendelssohn's St Paul, and Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, as well as Mozart's Requiem, under the baton of distinguished conductors Mr. Leung Kin Fung, Prof Chan Wing Wah (with the Hong Kong Oratorio Society), and Mr. Alex Tam.
