Overview

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the greatest genius of classical music who lived a very short life and often finished complex works within days or even hours; Igor Stravinsky, who called himself "Mozart's Continuer", contrastingly lived a very long life and was a slow worker.

While these two masters differed in aspects such as their lives, compositional styles, and personalities, they both achieved an exceptional level of sophistication, illustrating the highest level of perfection of their respective eras, and shared a unique passion for the clarinet.

The program for this concert showcases the works of these two musical titans. The Cong Quartet and clarinetist Wai Ki Wun will join forces to perform Mozart's renowned Clarinet Quintet in A major, as well as a fragment of his incomplete B-flat Clarinet Quintet. They will also present two sets of Stravinsky's "Three Pieces" from the same period, one for the string quartet and the other for the clarinet.

In addition, the Cong Quartet will perform Czech composer Janáček's late work, String Quartet No. 1, titled the "Kreutzer Sonata." The work was based on Russian philosopher Leo Tolstoy's novella, which sparked discussions on gender equality, societal morality, and marriage through a story of a husband who murdered his wife out of suspicion of infidelity.
