Chloe Chan

A graduate of Diocesan Girls' School and currently a student of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a full scholarship under the HKAPA Recruitment & Outstanding Scholarships, Chloe is studying violin with Mr Ivan Chan. She began learning violin from Miss Feng Jia at the age of 8 and has attained Trinity FTCL Violin diploma and LTCL Violin diploma, as well as Trinity LTCL Viola diploma under the tutelage of Mr Johnny Ng Ting Kwong.

Chloe has actively participated in many international and local music competitions. Most recently, she achieved champion in the violin senior category, champion and second place in the chamber young artist category with string quartet and duet respectively in the HKGNA International Music Competition 2023, and Gold Award in violin solo in the 2023 Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area Young Artist Music Week. She has achieved awards from the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival as well, including champion in Scholarship in Stringed Instruments group in the 75th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, in which she was invited to perform in the 75th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Prize Winners Concert in Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall; champion in senior violin duet in the 74th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival; champion in violin solo with the score of 97 in the 73rd Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, in which she was also awarded the Grantham Music Award and invited to perform in the Opening Ceremony of the 74th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, her video recording was also broadcasted in the television program "The 73rd Hong Kong Schools Music Festival" on Radio Television Hong Kong. She was also the champion of the Youth Free Program group from the 19th Osaka International Competition; champion of the AIMA International Music Competition Live Final in Taipei Strings Open Group; champion of the Violin Young Artist Category in the Vivaldi International Music Competition in 2022; champion of the Bowed Strings Open Class ( Overseas ) in the Hong Kong Talent Music Award in 2022; champion of the Virtuoso String Class in the Fringe Inter-School Music Competition in 2022; champion of the Violin Adolescent Class in the Hong Kong ( Asia Pac ) Bauhinia Cup 6th Strings Competition in 2022, in which she was also awarded a scholarship; champion of the Wien International Youth Musicians Music Competition in 2020, in which she achieved a perfect score from Prof. Konstantin Weitz; the champion of the Strings Advanced Group of the Italy Hong Kong International Music Competition; champion of the Youth Group in the Hong Kong International Music and Arts Festival Global Final in 2019; champion of Viola group of Aegean Sea International Music Competition in Taiwan in 2018; and champion of Okinawa International Music Competition in 2015.

Besides competitions, in August 2023, Chloe toured with the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra as soloist and concertmaster to Singapore and performed Wieniawski's Polonaise No. 1, Op. 4 and Tchaikovsky's Melodie from Souvenir d’un lieu cher in Victoria Concert Hall. She performed these pieces again in the "Homecoming Concert" in Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, and the concert was later documented in Ta Kung Pao and reviewed on RTHK Radio 4 Art News by Mr Oliver Chow. During the tour, in a visit to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore, she performed as a representative of Hong Kong for the Director of the office and its staff, in order to showcase the artistic talents of Hong Kong. In August 2022, she performed "Autumn" from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons with the DGS String Orchestra as soloist. In May 2021, she performed the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1, 3rd Movement in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall with the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, she toured with the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra as violin soloist and performed in Russia and Northern Europe, including Finlandia Hall, Musikaliska and Capella in Russia. In the same year, she also performed as violin soloist in the "Road to Elite I" and "Homecoming Concert" with the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra. She was also selected as Music Ambassador by the HUB Hong Kong and performed for charity.

Chloe has had the opportunities to participate in the masterclasses of the Music Director of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Christoph Poppen, fixed-chair first violinist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Chan Yoong-Han, held in the Yong Siew To Conservatory of Music, and renowned violinists, Richard Lin, Aylen Pritchin and Yang Xiaoyu, and was given much professional advice and guidance. In the summer of 2021, Chloe completed the Curtis Mentor Network with Dr. Solomiya Ivakhiv, Head of Strings from the Curtis Institute of Music. In July 2022, she was invited by the Asian Youth Orchestra as a guest player in their alumni orchestra to perform in the "Celebration of Life" concert. In April 2021, Chloe was one of the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra members selected to join forces with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta to play in the world premiere of the opera Alice in Wonderland, which was a very enlightening experience for her.

Chloe had received conditional offers from both Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She was awarded with the scholarships of DGS Exhibition for Music in the academic years 2019 to 2022. She was also shortlisted for the Performing Artist category in this year's SCMP Student of the Year Awards for the academic year 2021-2022. She served as the concertmaster of the Diocesan Girls' School String Orchestra; the associate concertmaster of the Diocesan Girls' School Symphony Orchestra; and currently serves as the concertmaster of the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra, the concertmaster of the Beethoven Orchestra and was the concertmaster of the Mozart Orchestra in the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra.
