The Diocesan Alumnae Orchestra is founded by a group of former graduates of DGS and DGJS who are keen on making music and performing together as an orchestra. We formally joined the Diocesan Old Girls' Association in September 2023.
Members of the orchestra span across different generations, and comprise both professional musicians and avid amateurs.
Our Concertmistress, Ms. Elizabeth LO, is the former Concertmistress of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. A number of our players are distinguished teachers of string and wind instruments who have graduated from renowned music schools in Hong Kong and different parts of the world, such as The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, The Julliard School, Eastman School of Music and Royal College of Music. For those who did not pursue music as a career, many have gone on to become distinguished and contributing members of society in the fields of medicine, education, banking and finance, law, fashion, architecture, public services etc. Our players also include various award winners who were participants in leading youth orchestras such as Verbier Youth Orchestra in Switzerland and the Asian Youth Orchestra. A number of our players were also winners of the DGS concerto competition.
The Diocesan Alumnae Orchestra provides a wonderful opportunity for all generations of DGS graduates to not only unite and network, but also to share and relive the unforgettable memories of making music together during our time at DGS. We hope to continue to share the same passion to build on our heritage and legacy of musical excellence.
We have performed at music concerts and fundraising events as a symphony orchestra, string orchestra and chamber group. We look forward to more exciting performing opportunities in the future.
