"Ceramicists have a saying "Clay encapsulates memory, every gesture leaves traces onto the earth."

Hong Kong Local Ceramic Art Fair 2024 emphasises 'perception', inviting visitors to appreciate the exceptional artworks made by local ceramicists and encouraging them to experience the nuances within, observe, perceive, and be inspired from seeing. As you stand before a ceramic work, have you ever taken your sightline further from a glance but to observe, to see through the fabric of care and delve into the determination that each ceramicist pours into a piece of work?

Ceramic making is an introspection of the artist, an extraordinary ceramic piece can unfold the creator's mentality, as if it is an extension of their life; beneath the visually appealing façade are pathways to observe the ceramicists' embodied experience. Living in a fast-paced environment, the atmosphere and characteristics of the city not only affect the general Hong-Konger but also challenge local ceramic artists. Both nurture their creativity and condition of their art-making.

In line with our mission to gather Hong Kong ceramic artists and bring local ceramic creations to our community, we have once again open-called fifty local ceramicists/ ceramic studios. At the same time, we are fortunate to have invited ceramic artists from Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, each from different regions, backgrounds, and cultures, to participate. As we explore creative landscapes beyond our local context through works that carry their life experiences, we observe and mutually learn from our diversity. Local ceramic artists and audiences alike may discover something new—whether it be a nutrient of creative inspiration or a glimpse into breaking through life's blind spots, cultivating a deeper understanding of oneself from the outside in.

We firmly believe that connecting people worldwide through ceramics and pursuing things that spark passions is particularly meaningful. This significance will serve as evidence of everyone's pursuit of life and a unique personal experience. We hope that Hong Kong Local Ceramic Art Fair continues to foster inspiration and resonance with everyone.

Let us carry on with being compassionate to people, passionate about ceramic, and caring for the land.

【 Tea Bowl Joint Exhibition and Tea Ceremony Experience Workshop 】

"To See a World in a Bowl of Tea"

"To see a world in a bowl of tea" is a saying in tea ceremony that signifies how each tea bowl encapsulates its narration and sensibility. Whether it is the origin of the tea, the process of its making, or the tea drinker's sentiments, all these elements are reflected in a single bowl. In the classification of ceramic wares, the tea bowl is a vessel specifically crafted for brewing and enjoying tea. And ceramicists often create unique bowl shapes and textures to elevate the tea's flavour and drinking experience. "To See a World in a Bowl of Tea" Tea Bowl Joint Exhibition features tea bowls made by local ceramic artists, displayed in a space designed to recreate a traditional tea room, enriching the viewer's imagination of tea ceremony and the tea-drinking environment.

As a medium for serving and enjoying tea, the tea bowl conveys the warmth that flows through the reciprocal connection between the tea master, the tea drinker, and the tea itself. "Harmony, Respect, Purity, and Tranquility" are the ideals pursued in tea ceremonies, seeking to achieve a state of calm serenity through inner peace, approached with elegance, naturalness, and effortlessness. To provide visitors with a complete tea bowl experience, the exhibition includes a specially curated "Tea Ceremony Experience Workshop," where participants can choose and use one of the exhibited tea bowls to partake in a tea ceremony. Through this, they engage with art while reflecting and introspecting their daily lives.

Tea Ceremony Experience Workshop date: 2024.11.30 & 12.1
Session: 2 sessions/day, session time 12:00-13:00 or 13:30-14:30
