Overview

You may wonder: Where is the canal on Canal Road? Where is the hill at Morrison Hill? Why are some of the natural features that lend their names to places invisible?

Accompanying the heritage thematic exhibition Happy Valley: A Cultural Landscape, a new family workshop offers a tram ride to explore the city, helping children learn about the urban history of Hong Kong Island through observation and artistic creation. As one of the earliest modes of public transport in Hong Kong, the tramway has endured through changes to the city's coastline and land use.

Participants are invited to board a tram to travel from Western District to Happy Valley. Throughout the journey, you will compare historical photos with the city's modern-day appearance, learn about changes after land reclamation, and create a personal illustrated map with your family.

This workshop aims to help children learn more about the city they live in, and to understand the relationship between humans and the natural environment.

The exhibition is part of the 140th anniversary activities for The Hong Kong Jockey Club.
