Crash & Explore ( 1.0 ) was successfully completed in January 2023. This new edition will build upon the core principles of the previous project while introducing a series of refinements.
The name Crash & Explore signifies the creative "collision" between composers and performers, sparking innovation and the creation of new works. The word "Explore" also carries meanings of "collaboration" and "composition," reflecting the project's goal of reshaping the traditional working relationship between composers and musicians. By emphasizing communication between the two, the project aims to inspire both the creative process and the interpretation of the works. Additionally, audiences will have the opportunity to gain insight into contemporary music from a composer's perspective.
This edition will commission five composers who are graduates of composition programs to create brand-new clarinet ensemble works under the theme of "Future." These works will be showcased through a series of introductory talks and concerts in collaboration with local clarinetists.
The five newly commissioned clarinet ensemble pieces are:
If Time - Joanne Chan
Inevitable - Anna Vienna Ho
Postcyberpunk - Benjamin Ng
There will be no future! - William Shiu
St..ime - Bonnie Yung
( Composers listed in alphabetical order by surname. )
