Annis Ma

Annis Ma received an Honorable Mention in Musicus Society's Young Artist Audition in 2022. She is a passionate violist from Hong Kong, currently pursuing her master's degree at the Curtis Institute of Music, studying under Misha Amory and Hsin-Yun Huang. She is the recipient of the Bernice and Howard Levinson Fellowship at Curtis and a full scholarship from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund.

Annis began learning the viola at six with Ray Tsoi and later studied with Born Lau in Hong Kong. She was named a Hong Kong Young Music Maker by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 4 in 2017 – the youngest awardee ever – and won the Grand Prize at the 5th Hong Kong International Music Festival in 2018, showcasing her exceptional artistry.

She has performed at prestigious festivals such as the Verbier Festival, Gstaad String Academy, and BIGLAKE Arts, appearing as both soloist and chamber musician. She serves as principal violist in the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Verbier Festival Orchestra, and Colburn Orchestra, and is a member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, she has appeared as guest principal violist with Symphony in C.

An active chamber musician, Annis has collaborated with renowned artists including Osmo Vänskä, Teddy Abrams, Erin Keefe, Trey Lee, and Marc Coppey. In the fall of 2024, she was invited to premiere Osmo Vänskä's Clarinet Quintet at the Curtis Institute of Music.

As a member of Musicus Soloists Hong Kong, Annis has performed worldwide. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Colburn Conservatory of Music, studying under Paul Coletti, Tatjana Masurenko, and Teng Li.
