MILA Quartet

Fellowship String Quartet & Pre-College Faculty, Tianjin Juilliard School |
The MILA Quartet, a prominent pioneer of Chinese young string quartets, received professional guidance from the world-renowned Shanghai Quartet. In 2022, the MILA Quartet graduated from the Tianjin Juilliard School as the first quartet to be awarded Fellowship String Quartet. Comprising violinists Ke Karl Zhu, Huan Ci, violist Zhangjuan Liu and cellist Yanyan Lin, the MILA Quartet showcases remarkable talent and synergy.

Founded in 2020, the MILA Quartet has achieved remarkable feats in the music field. MILA won the Gold with Honours at the 2020/2021 Singapore International Solo & Ensemble Competition in 2021; and was selected as one of only four outstanding string quartets recruited worldwide to take part in the internationally celebrated Juilliard String Quartet Seminar in New York in 2022.

As a group of accomplished performers, the MILA Quartet shone brightly at the 2nd Tianjin Chamber Music Festival and embarked on their first annual China tour in 2021. At the 1st Tianjin Juilliard Festival Connect, they shared the stage with the Shanghai Quartet and premiered Hungarian contemporary composer Ádám Kondor's work "Vita Nova" in collaboration with conductor Chen Lin. Their performance footprints have spread across many prestigious venues such as the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, the Tsinghua University, the Tianjin Grand Theatre, the Izumi Hall in Osaka, and the Hawthorn Arts Centre in Melbourne.

As music educators, the MILA Quartet offered an elective course titled "The Art of String Quartet" at the ShanghaiTech University in 2023. They also brought this course to Tianjin Binhai Library, presenting it as free lectures for music lovers. Since 2022, MILA has been teaching at the Pre-College Division and Public Education Division of the Tianjin Juilliard School. Currently, they are committed to the Chamber Music Intensive Program in Pre-College, imparting collaborative playing skills to help young artists explore musical collaboration more deeply.
