One of Hong Kong's finest young talents, violinist Chan Ka-yee Chloe is currently studying under the tutelage of Professor Ivan Chan at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a full scholarship under the Hong Kong Jockey Club Undergraduate Scholarship and the HKAPA Recruitment & Outstanding Scholarship. She has attained Trinity FTCL Violin diploma and LTCL Violin diploma, as well as Trinity LTCL Viola diploma.
In November 2024, Chloe was invited by Hong Kong Generation Next Arts as the soloist of Piazzolla's "The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" Primavera Porteña (Spring) and served as the concertmistress of the HKGNA Young Virtuosi. She was also invited to perform as a guest player in the Hong Kong debut of the Tianjin Juilliard Orchestra, and she participated in the outdoor concert at AXA Wonderland, WestK, part of the Hong Kong Generation Next Arts Music Festival 2024 under the baton of conductor Leung Kin-fung as the concertmistress of the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra. In July 2024, Chloe served as the concertmistress and soloist in the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra’s tour to Florence and Milan, Italy. In the past, she had also performed as a soloist with the orchestra in Hong Kong, Singapore, Northern Europe and Russia. In April 2024, she held her debut recital at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre and was interviewed by Radio Television Hong Kong.
Chloe is also an active participant in many international and local music competitions, including champion in the String Virtuoso Group with the highest score and champion in the Chamber Group, receiving the Larsen Award in the Victoria Classical Artists Competition; Gold Award in violin solo in the 2023 Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area Young Artist Music Week; champion in the violin senior category, champion and second place in the chamber young artist category with string quartet and duet respectively in the HKGNA International Music Competition 2023; champion in Scholarship in Stringed Instruments group in the 75th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, in which she was invited to perform in the 75th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Prize Winners Concert in Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall; champion in senior violin duet in the 74th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival; champion in violin solo in the 73rd Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, in which she was also awarded the Grantham Music Award and invited to perform in the Opening Ceremony of the 74th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, her video recording was also broadcasted in the television program "The 73rd Hong Kong Schools Music Festival" on Radio Television Hong Kong; champion of the Youth Free Program group from the 19th Osaka International Competition, etc.
Chloe has had the opportunities to participate in the masterclasses of the Music Director of Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Christoph Poppen, fixed-chair first violinist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Chan Yoong-Han, held in the Yong Siew To Conservatory of Music, and renowned world-class violinists James Ehnes, Ning Feng, Richard Lin, Aylen Pritchin and Yang Xiaoyu, and was given much professional advice and guidance. In the summer of 2023, Chloe completed the Curtis Mentor Network with Dr. Solomiya Ivakhiv, Head of Strings from the Curtis Institute of Music.
Chloe previously served as the concertmistress of the Diocesan Girls' School String Orchestra and vice-concertmistress of the Diocesan Girls’ School Symphony Orchestra, where she was awarded with the scholarships of DGS Exhibition for Music in the academic years 2019 to 2022, as well as concertmistress of the Mozart and Beethoven Orchestras in the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra. She currently serves as the concertmistress of the HKAPA Academy orchestra for the opera “Don Giovanni”, and concertmistress of the HKGNA Young Virtuosi and the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra.
