吳幽

Ng Yau (Yau Yau) is a 12-year-old Hong Kong cellist recognized for his musical maturity, versatility, and natural leadership across solo, orchestral, chamber, and cross-genre stages.
He studies with Ms. Anna Kwan Ton-an of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and has received masterclass guidance from internationally renowned artists including Jian Wang, Claudio Bohórquez, Kangho Lee, Ray Wang, Pierre Doumenge, Nayoung Baek, Tim Lowe, Caroline Dale, Yeonjin Kim, Wendy Law, Yi-bing Chu, Michael Brooks Reid, Ciaran McCabe, Wing Ho, and Joel Hunter.

He has received multiple music scholarships from Diocesan Boys' School Primary Division, numerous competition awards, and a full scholarship to the 2025 St. Paul's Co-educational College Summer Portal. Competition highlights include First Prize (Cello Junior Division), HKGNA International Music Competition 2025, and Second Place in both the Sonata and Cello Concerto Classes at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, alongside top prizes at the Hong Kong International Youth Performance Arts Festival, Hong Kong Promotion of Performing Arts Association Competition, and Joint Schools Music Competition.

As a soloist, he was featured in the "Young Talent Series" (2024) of the Joy of Music Festival, presented by the Chopin Society of Hong Kong, and was selected as a solo performer at the 2025 Diocesan Boys' School Garden Fete Music Performance.

An active orchestral musician, he began his leadership journey at age nine as Principal Cellist of the Diocesan Boys' School Primary Division orchestras, leading prize-winning ensembles at major local festivals. Upon entering the Secondary Division, he continues to hold key roles in the school's Symphony Orchestra, Senior String Orchestra, and String Quartet.

Beyond his school commitments, he has performed with the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra and HKGNA Young Virtuosi since age ten, and has participated in collaborative orchestral projects uniting members of the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra with the Guangzhou Symphony Youth Orchestra, Macau Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Singapore National Youth Orchestra.

In 2024, he was appointed Principal Cellist—and the youngest participant—under Maestro Christoph Eschenbach in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Tutti Program's Share the Stage with the HK Phil. He subsequently served as Cello Section Leader in collaboration with the English Chamber Orchestra at the Musicus Fest 2025 Opening Concert, and most recently led the cello section in the world premiere of QUIET, The AISL Harrow Musical, composed and directed by Mr. Warren Lee.

He has shared the stage with world-renowned artists including Joshua Bell, Frank Huang, and Timothy Chooi, and has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Joshua Tan, Dr. Joseph Kam Ho-pang, Andrew Ling Hin-yau, Jeremy Williams, and Jing Huan. In addition to his classical engagements, he has appeared as live cellist in pop artist Edan Lui's 2025 "e to E" Concerts at AsiaWorld-Expo and remains deeply committed to chamber music performance.
