BELOWGROUND is delighted to announce the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong by renowned ceramic artist Teppei Ono.
Teppei Ono, one of Japan's most respected contemporary ceramic artists, creates his works amid the serene mountains of Kochi Prefecture. Through the tactile process of hand-kneading local Kochi clay, stoking wood-fired kilns, and confronting the unpredictable dance of flames, Ono channels a profound energy that resonates deeply with the viewer. Inspired by the simplicity, warmth, and rustic richness he absorbed during extensive travels across Asia, Ono crafts bold yet comforting vessels for daily life.
The BELOWGROUND exhibition features more than 120 exceptional wood-fired vessels, many hand-formed from local clay and showcasing Ono's signature rustic, unpretentious aesthetic honed over decades of dedicated practice. Highlights include key works from his second monograph, TEPPEI ONO: THE WORKS (published 2025), a comprehensive celebration of his career approaching half a century.
