Coinciding with a Horse Racing Event in our travels, we spent a night near the camps setup for this event. Dressed up and well decorated, the participants engaged in laps around a course set up by simple posts and string, huddled in groups around the course were family and friends, cheering them on with cigarettes and coffee in hand.
Not only is “To Tibet” a photographic series documenting a trip driving to the famed plateau, it is more importantly a toast to Tibet after an introspection of the trip itself.
The vast lands of Tibet encompasses a collective that is incredibly diverse and plentiful- whereby it is impossible to encapsulate in a few images alone. A dormant ideology, however, resonates across the lands and was deeply heartfelt along the journey.
This series of photographs were curated from the collection of images captured between Kunming of Yunnan and Lhasa of Tibet, where over 2,000 kilometers was traversed by car. Of the countless landscapes, including mountains, flatlands, deserts, and grassy fields to name a few, the series reveal an ideology that is otherwise abstract to define, and for a lack of better words, they elucidate our (and in a broader sense, society's) relationship with nature.
