MutaMenti Festival is a jazz festival founded by the Istituto Valorizzazione Castelli from Italy under the artistic direction of Max De Aloe. It is a colorful plot that unites the territory through the colorful threads of jazz languages. With festival theme “fluid spaces of borderless jazz”, this year, MutaMenti extends its festival map outside Italy with the Hong Kong edition (MutaMenti HK) presented by “Jazz in the Neighbourhood” featuring a diverse lineup of established and emerging jazz talents from Italy and Hong Kong in two days at Tsuen Wan Town Hall. In the next edition of MutaMenti in Italy (2024), a Hong Kong Night will be featured!
27 Sep 2023 - Concert 1
Kicking off MutaMenti HK is the Atlantis Trio, a rare trio featuring piano, sitar and tabla. It was founded in 2014 and led by Italian pianist Roberto Olzer, joined by Deobrat Mishra (sitar) and Prashant Mishra (tabla) from India.
The second set is a tribute to Ennio Morricone (1928 – 2020), one of the world’s greatest film composers from Italy, featuring the classics of Morricone performed by Roberto Olzer on piano , Max De Aloe on harmonica and Hong Kong jazz ensemble Fountain de Chopin.
28 Sep 2023 - Concert 2
The first set of the second day is a quartet performance led by Max De Aloe who is considered one of the most active jazz harmonicists in Europe's music scene. The quartet is the fruit of a synergetic and collaborative workshop of Max and three other musicians including Roberto Olzer (piano), Marco Mistrangelo (bass) and Nicola Stranieri (drums). We will hear the melodic compositions of Max, as well as clever interpretations of classic songs by David Bowie, Bjork and Sting.
Finally, MutaMenti HK will end with “Harmonica Summit: Toots 100 featuring Mike del Ferro”, another tribute to the King of Jazz Harmonica - Toots Thielemans. Three harmonica aces Max De Aloe (Italy), Hendrik Meurkens (Germany) and CY Leo (Hong Kong) will reunite and perform music arranged by Mike Del Ferro who was Toot’s pianist for over 10 years in Europe.
