Nothing Really Happened
Nothing Really Happened is an animated film directed by Mufasa Yu, which features original music by Clave. It will first be screened in the form of an audiovisual performance.
What is out of sight comes neither before nor after you. You know of an earthquake that shakes time out of its sequence and dismantles the house that you built, a peephole through which an expanse stretches indefinitely until trees overlap on top of one another. You can look past it, but not through it. You think you are propelled forward in motion, but something quietly holds you back.
In Nothing Really Happened, six chapters of the film oscillate between what is lost and what is found across the same ancestral plane. Images rearrange themselves spontaneously in transition towards chaos and reunion, until they no longer move or rest, become or dissolve. There is everything to see yet nothing there, but briefly in transit you might have already experienced all of it, all at once.
Following a cinematic journey where textured bodies and objects blend into surrealism, the film immerses the viewer in a sensory experience of haunting visuals and hypnotic soundscapes. Within one year, Mufasa devised the story and screenplay for the film, utilizing techniques such as photorealistic 3D rendering and motion capture in his creative process. The film also features contributions from artists Cecilia Chan Nga Ying for painting, Tony Cheng for 3D sculpting, and Edwin Chuk Yin Man for motion capture performance.
The original music by Clave, blending elements of ambient, post rock, electronic music, and trip hop, includes six tracks that correspond to the six chapters of the film. During the audiovisual performance, Clave will perform the original music alongside the screening of the film.
