We are truly honored to welcome Dee Dee Bridgewater and Helen Sung to Hong Kong for this very special duo performance. This concert carries particular significance—following the successful conclusion of Jazz in Tsuen Wan, it marks our first return event, jointly presented by Jazz World (Hong Kong) and Jazz Up. Our vision is to bring jazz into different communities, promoting the idea of "Jazz Everywhere" so that more people can experience the beauty and freedom of jazz in their daily lives.
Bridgewater is a legendary figure in the American jazz scene, a three-time Grammy Award winner and Tony Award recipient for her role in the Broadway musical The Wiz. Her captivating stage presence and powerful voice have won the hearts of audiences worldwide. She also hosted NPR's JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater for over two decades, tirelessly promoting jazz.
Helen Sung, a Chinese-American pianist, is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and winner of the Kennedy Center Mary Lou Williams Jazz Piano Competition. She was selected for the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance (now the Herbie Hancock Institute), where she performed alongside masters such as Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. Her music seamlessly blends classical training with jazz improvisation, creating performances that are both elegant and full of surprises. Together, Bridgewater and Sung embody a cross-cultural, cross-generational musical dialogue that promises to deliver an unforgettable experience for Hong Kong audiences.
