Ms. Man-Sze Tsang started playing saxophone at the age of 12 by joining the PLK No.1 W.H. Cheung College’ s instrumental class program under the guidance of Ms. Sissie Siu. In 1999, Man-Sze started her professional saxophone training with Mr. Tim Wilson (the former Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra’ s principal flute), Mr. Martin Choy (the former Hong Kong Sinfonietta, principal clarinet) and Michael Campbell (Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra clarinetist) at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Music Department. Later, Man-Sze received her Diploma in Performing Arts (Music, majoring in Saxophone performance) and the Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts (Music, majoring in Saxophone performance) in 2001 and 2003 respectively. During the study period at HKAPA, Man-Sze had participated in Saxophone Master Classes held by the world famous Japan Saxophonist, Nobuya Sugawa and Dr. Kenneth Tse (Professor of Saxophone of the University of Iowa, United States). Man-Sze obtained the Trinity College of Music, LTCL Diploma with distinction in 2009.
As an active saxophonist in Hong Kong, Man-Sze was invited to work with many local musical groups. In 2009, she was invited to be a guest saxophone player and one of the saxophone quartet soloists with the Chung Chi Wind Orchestra of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2010 and 2013, being invited to be a member of the Hong Kong Young Musicians’ Wind Orchestra, Man-Sze joined the band’s “Europe International Youth Music Competition” in Austria and “World Music Contest” in the Netherlands and won the Championship and Gold Medal in the group event respectively. Since 2013, Man-Sze has been invited to be the tenor saxophone player of the Hong Kong Professional Winds Orchestra and the alto saxophone player of the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia in 2019.
As a soloist, she performed as a guest soloist at the Hong Kong Young Musicians’ Wind Orchestra 15th Anniversary Concert in 2015. And in 2019, Man-Sze performed "Fansaxo” by Colombian composer Daniel Taborda " as Asia Premiere with the Hong Kong Tak Ming Philharmonic Winds.
Man-Sze is one of the founding members of the Hong Kong Saxophone Ensemble (HKSE), established in 2011 with famous and talented saxophone players in Hong Kong. Being one of the representatives of the HKSE, she was invited to Radio Television Hong Kong and TVB for an interview and a live performing broadcast in July 2012 and May 2014 respectively. In 2012 and 2015 summer, Man-Sze performed with the HKSE on the 16th and 17th World Saxophone Congress in Scotland and Strasbourg, France.
Since 2016, Tsang has been a member of the Opus a la Carte (local saxophone group) and participated in local and overseas performances frequently, including “Tom Lee Music Plaza @ HKCC – Band Connect” in February 2018 organized by the Tom Lee Music Foundation, Singapore Saxophone Symposium in August 2018, the “Heritage Vogue · Hollywood Road” street carnival, organized by the Commissioner for Heritage's Office of the Development Bureau in November 2018, and more.
Man-Sze founded the Hong Kong Youth Saxophone Choir in 2010, which aims to nurture young saxophonists, and to promote and educate music to the youngsters in Hong Kong. As the music director and conductor of the Hong Kong Youth Saxophone Choir, Man-Sze leads the group to perform at all kinds of occasions and shows frequently. Besides being active in Hong Kong, with Man-Sze’ s music direction, the Hong Kong Saxophone Choir participated in the Singapore Saxophone Symposium with a highly successful performance in August 2015. In 2016, the Hong Kong Youth Saxophone Choir proudly won the 1st Winner Prize and the Grand Prize under the baton of Man-Sze in the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy Competition Saxophone Ensemble Competition in Bangkok.
Since 2007, Man-Sze has been appointed as the Music Director of the Music Sphere Company Limited and serves as a saxophone tutor of many primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.
