Baroque violinist Sue-Ying Koang received critical acclaim for her world premiere solo album Johan Helmich Roman: A Violino Solo (Indésens Calliope, 2024). Formerly Principal Violinist of the Liège Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and teaching assistant at the Liège Royal Conservatoire until 2011, she now dedicates herself to historically informed performance practice.
She has performed with prestigious ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants, Pygmalion, and La Fenice. Her main musical partner is organist, harpsichordist, conductor and musicologist Vincent Bernhardt (professor and dean at the HMDK Stuttgart), with whom she focuses on the musical circle surrounding Vivaldi. Their collaborations include two albums dedicated to manuscript works by Giuseppe Torelli and a recording of a Dresden manuscript copied by Johann Georg Pisendel.
Koang is also passionate about teaching. She currently teaches historically informed performance at HEMU in Switzerland and gives masterclasses in various conservatoires.
She received her training at the CNSM in Lyon, the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA) , and at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva.
