Peter, Yip Ping Hong

Peter Yip is a Hong Kong-born drummer and educator. He started his music journey at the age of 16 from church. Influenced by gospel music, he was fascinated to dig deep in gospel chops, groove and pocket. In 2018, Yip participated in Hong Kong International Drummer Festival and won a 2nd Runner up.

In 2019, He enrolled in a jazz music programme and started performing and participating in different ensembles. Yip has performed in various venues, for instance, Freespace the Box, Lau Bak Livehouse, Chez Trente, Visage One, Maggie Choo, Iron Fairies, etc.

In 2022, Yip is one of the co-founder of "INTROVERSE" - A 5-piece alternative rock band which fuses the grooves of RnB, jazz-funk with emo-rock, and has actively performed in pop music scene. Yip was selected as the BEST DRUMMER in Hong Kong Youth Band Competition 2022. They then released their first single "Shall We Dance" in 2024. By now, they have composed over 6 originals and was invited to Commercial Radio Hong Kong for interview.

Yip is an all-rounded drummer, he has collaborated with different arts group, including Backwater (local band), First Eat Pepper (fusion band), Swingpocket (Swing dance group), Noisecontrol (rock band),etc. Additionally, he has worked with renowned artists such as Miranda Lee, Jase Ho@ Callstar, Eric Chong, Scott Dott, etc. In 2024, Yip participated in Hong Kong Asia Pacific Youth Band Sound Competition 2024 with Backwater, and won the Asia Pacific Champion as well as Hong Kong Region Champion.
