Ian Tang

Ian Tang (BFA HKAPA, MFA School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong-based cross-disciplinary sound artist and composer. As a composer, his work spans various art forms including contemporary dance, short films, theater productions and new media performances. He was the mixing engineer for ViuTV's "Where is My Fifteen Minutes" theme song, and the mastering engineer for its original album soundtrack. He was also took up roles as associate music producer and sound engineer for the Cantonese musical adaptation "Wicked in Conto". In regards to media art, Ian is keen on exploring the possibilities of ambisonic and spatial audio, as well as the relationship between improvisation and interactive media installations.

In 2025, he was nominated for Best Original Music at the Hong Kong Theatre Awards for "Les Fleurs du mal" by Artocrite Theatre. Within the same year, his work as sound designer and composer in "HAHAHAHAMLET" was selected as the "Outstanding Show" by the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Asian Art Awards.


His recent collaborations and commissioned works include "TechBox 2024: Level 66 Arcade Project" (West Kowloon Cultural District), "Bird Song" (M+ at Night: Sensory Encounters), "Human, Common Territory" and "Synthnetic" (School of Dance Summer Performance2023–2024, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts), "Entertainment Trilogy I: Haw Par Mansion" (Ronin Theatre), "New Force In Motion 2024/25" (Hong Kong Dance Alliance), "Ellie, My Love" (Theatre Space), "Dust and Dawn Mist" (HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity), "Travel of the Soul: Echoes after Time" (Labora Terry Arts), "Juggling Wonders" (Common Ground), and "Garden of Repose" — a multimedia choral concert touring schools (Hong Kong Arts Festival), as well as international collaboration, such as "Exquiste Noise" and "In Realness"(Van Huynh Company) ect. Some of his work have been staged internationally at Edge Hill University Arts Centre (Ormskirk, UK), Edinburgh Festival Fringe (UK), Huichang Theatre Town (China), School of Visual Arts (New York, USA), Lugano Animation Days (Switzerland), BankART KAIKO (Yokohama, Japan), and Athens Digital Arts Festival (Greece) etc.
