Scarlett Jie Chen embodies a rare combination of acclaimed performing arts background with an innovative entrepreneurial mindset, educational leadership and social activism that brings together over 20 years of personal commitment to creative vision and public service.

A top graduate from Harvard University, the China Europe International Business School ( CEIBS ), and the Curtis Institute of Music, Scarlett was the youngest Asian female to win eleven prestigious international prizes through a performing career that included concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Centre in Washington D.C., and the Louvre in Paris.

Scarlett was the Founding Dean of the Music Department at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology ( USST ), China' s first music department in a first-tier scientific and technological research university. During her eight-year tenure, she was instrumental in building USST's music department from scratch and implementing an innovative programme that merges technological training with performing art practices that received critical domestic and international acclaim.

Scarlett was the first classical musician ever admitted to the Mid -Career Master in Public Administration (MC-MPA) program with an Edward S. Mason Fellow title at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government (HKSG). During her time at HKSG, she founded and served as co-president of the Arts and Culture Caucus, helping lead the strategic development and programming design while also carrying out research and lecturing on performing arts as a medium for social change.

A keen believer in the imperatives of sustainability and social justice, Scarlett seeks to transcend boundaries and promote better understandings through interdisciplinary collaborations and philanthropic endeavours. She aims to help foster education, development, and growth sustainably to enable positive economic, social, and environmental outcomes.
