Butt Ho Chun, Colin

Butt Ho Chun, Colin is a 12-year-old boy studying at French International School. He started learning the violin at the age of 6 and viola at the age of 11 under the tutelage of Jasmine PANG. He has obtained ABRSM violin exam in grade 8 at 10 years old and viola exam distinction in grade 8 last year. Colin is now preparing for the Trinity LTCL examination as his next goal in his musical journey.

He is keen to participate in public competitions and performances since 2019, he was awarded different prizes in these years including 3rd prize of grade 6 violin solo in the 77th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and the 2nd prize of grade 5 violin solo in the 76th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, and the champion (Strings Age Group - Junior (Age 13 or under) in the Fukuoka International Music Competition Final 2024 recently.

Besides his own solo playing, he takes part in quartet and orchestra performances actively. Since 2019, Colin became the 1st violinist of HKCSO in which he got many chances to perform at Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Hong Kong City Hall. He also joined IYCM Chamber Orchestra in 2022 and Elite Children String Quartet in 2024. His quartet has been awarded 1st place in the chamber group from the Fukuoka International Music Competition in Aug 2024 and 2nd place in the Victoria Classical Artist Competition in Sept 2024.

Colin has engaged in volunteer performances in 2022-2024. He visited the elderly community centre, the children community music workshop ‘ The Sound of Music’ and performed at Hyatt Hotel during Christmas. He hopes to use music to influence more people and bring more joy to the world.
