Lillian Kong

Known for her poetic playing and sensitivity, Lillian Kong charms audiences around the world with her unique charisma, versatile styles and vitality.

Lillian Kong graduated with a Master of Music at Mannes School of Music (NYC) under the tutelage of Emmanuel Ceysson, Principal Harp of the Metropolitan Opera. Kong is a recipient of the Mannes Dean’s Scholarship and the scholarship from Queenie Leung, Chairman’s Club Member of Herbalife International. Before NYC, Kong studied at Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris-Alfred Cortot with Ceysson after graduating from Hong Kong Baptist University. Her former teachers include Dan Yu, Yi-wen Kuang and Michelle Abbott. She spent an exchange semester with a university scholarship at Ball State University (Indiana) in the studio of Elizabeth Richter. Kong participated in many masterclasses and coaching with world-renowned harpists and distinguished musicians, including Yo-yo Ma, Michael Stern, Isabelle Morretti, Naoko Yoshino, Judy Loman, Marie-Pierre Langlamet, Isabelle Perrin, Elizabeth Hainen, Marie-Luisa Rayan, Sivan Magen, Anneleen Lenaerts and more. In 2018, Lillian represented Hong Kong to compete in the prestigious International Harp Contest in Israel. In 2019, she was awarded the silver medal in the 3rd Berliner International Music Competition.

Kong has performed in recitals, chamber and orchestral concerts in the USA, France, Israel, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong including the Lincoln Centre’s Alice Tully Hall, the New York City Center, Salle Cortot (Paris), l’Auditorium de Tignespace, Knight Hall (Akko), Xinghai Concert Hall, Hong Kong Culture Center, Hong Kong City Hall, TaiKwun etc. Moreover, she has collaborated with different art groups such as the internationally renowned Martha Graham Dance Company, the Mannes Opera, Mannes American Composers Ensemble, School of Jazz (The New School) and more. As an orchestral player, Lillian has performed under the baton of Michael Stern, Andrew Mogrelia, David Hayes, David Fulmer, Leslie Stifelman, Alan Pierson and Wilson Ng. Lillian frequently performed in premieres of new music of established and emerging composers from different countries. Her playing often received compliments from conductors, faculties and composers including Michael Stern, Yo-yo Ma, David Lively, the Silk Road Ensemble, Janet Eilber, Leslie Stifelman, Sara Kirkland Snider, Andy Milne and more.

As a passionate young musician, Lillian actively participated in different music festivals and summer academies including Youth Music Culture Guangdong , l’Academie Internationale d’Eté de Nice, MusicAlp. Upon her return to Hong Kong after graduation, Lillian performs locally with the HK based chamber group, The TimeCrafters and Gustav Mahler Orchestra(HK). Dec 2019, Lilian was featured in a performance and interview at local TV, RTHK The Works about her duo concert at TaiKwun.
