MC Chiang

Solomon Chiang, also known as MC Chiang, holds both a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he majored in Chinese Language and Literature and minored in Music. He pursued saxophone studies under Mr. Choy Kwok Tin Martin, recorder under Mr. Ho Wing Kai Henry, and film scoring under Dr. Lo Hau-man. He also studied conducting with Professor Koon Mee-yu Carmen at the Hong Kong Conservatory of Music.

Chiang began studying saxophone in childhood under Ms. Winne Ng and Ms. Tsang Man Sze. As a Form Three student, he earned a Grade 8 certificate in distinction from the Royal Academy of Music with a score of 140. He also received numerous awards at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival during his secondary school years, including first prize in the under-19 treble recorder solo, first prize in the under-19 recorder duet, and second prize with honours in the senior secondary school saxophone solo category, to name just a few.

Chiang served twice as concertmaster of the T.W.G.Hs Li Ka Shing College Wind Orchestra and later became the orchestra's assistant conductor under Mr Pak Wing-Fai and Mr. Yip Chun-Kit. He was also once the school's instructor for woodwinds, saxophone and recorder, leading the recorder ensemble to win the first prize at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

In 2013, Chiang earned the LTCL Diploma in Saxophone Performance from Trinity College London with distinction. He once performed as a resident or guest musician with several orchestras, including the Chung Chi Wind Orchestra, Parsons Wind Orchestra, Hong Kong Festival Youth Wind Orchestra, and Musicphilic Winds. In 2018, he received Excellence Awards for recorder solo and chamber music ensemble at the Hsinchu International Recorder Competition. Chiang has participated in various masterclasses, learning from renowned musicians such as Nobuya Sugawa, Branford Marsalis, Piers Adams, and Germán Augusto Gutiérrez.

In addition, Chiang is a respected Chinese language educator and author, with several teaching reference books and classical Chinese novels to his name. His book 'Model: Starting from the 12 Set Texts' received the Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Award in Language Learning. He also shares classical Chinese knowledge on social media, amassing over 70,000 followers.
