May Yeung

May Yeung is an internationally acclaimed interdisciplinary sculptor whose postmodern pop art style focuses on the interactions between humans, art, and nature. She uses a cross-disciplinary approach, incorporating dance, music, and photography into her work. May's use of symbolic imagery is deeply rooted in visual music and sound art, where visual and auditory elements combine to create profound, multisensory experiences. In her past works, May's use of musical notes, punctuation marks, and ancient languages like Chinese oracle bone script creates a universal language that conveys her carefully crafted message to all who engage with her art.

Prominent art pieces that showcase May's masterful use of symbolism include "Citation" and "#," which were exhibited at Chicago Union Station and the Rockefeller Chapel, as well as "Musical Compass" for Discovery Art Fair Frankfurt and "Hear the Silent Flowers Sing" at the Cordoaria Nacional, Lisbon.

Another notable piece is the sculpture and dance performance piece "Soul of Hoi" for the Hong Kong Tourism Commission's Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival in 2024, which featured visual and musical symbolism to pay homage to the Hakka culture of High Island.

This year, May will become the first Hong Kong artist born in the 1980s to exhibit at the Louvre with her latest impressionist work, "Silence in Full Bloom", featuring a hand-crafted cold porcelain musical quarter rest and magnolia flower fashioned out of wood.

May's contribution to art and society has won her numerous awards and accolades in Hong Kong and abroad, including the Top 10 Outstanding Young Artists Award (2019), The Loop HK 30 under 30 Award (2019), the Hong Kong Professional Elite Ladies Selection Award (2020), the Youth Dream Makers Award (2021), the Golden Bauhinia Women Entrepreneur – Art and Culture Achievement Award (2024), and the Hong Kong Culture and Creativity Industries Award (2024).
