Choreographer, performer, and research scholar. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Wai Yin received his PhD in marine ecology from HKU and BSc in marine biology from UCLA. Using body and various mediums in live performance and improvisation, he explores the emergence and contextualisation of identity and physical body in collective experience and memory.
Wai Yin's recent works include: « Chair spin » (working title), a lecture performance where he deconstructed 12 years of pole dance practice using Instagram as an archive and performance language (residency at Komuna Warszawa Teatr, Poland); « Memo-random », a live performance and installation reflecting, through automatic writing, on the experience of movement occurrence in our body with reference to the theory of motor imagery (Eaton HK 24 Hours Movement Festival).
Wai Yin is currently a full-time resident artist at Unlock Dancing Plaza.
