Academy Chinese Opera: Gongs and DrumsThe Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts

A recurring series of the School of Chinese Opera, Gongs and Drums will be staged at the Academy Rita Tong Liu Drama Theatre presenting three classical Cantonese opera excerpts. The performance will take the audience to savour the beauty of Cantonese opera and to celebrate the collective effort of students from the Music and Performance Majors of the School. Excerpts include 'Lodging at the inn' from The Sword of the Valiant, 'Stealing the verse' from The Romance of Jade Hairpin, and Ping Gui Bids Farewell. The renowned Cantonese and Peking opera master, Mr Lau Shun is invited to be the guest director of Ping Gui Bids Farewell.

Performed and accompanied by students of the Performance Major and the Music Major of the Academy’s School of Chinese Opera. Members of the production team are students and faculty from the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts.
