簡介

Syria and Turkey, the two countries most affected by the earthquake on 6 Feb 2023, are homes to rich musical heritages, including regional folksongs and art music from shared roots in the Ottoman Empire. The Nur Collective & friends will lead you on a journey to discover some of most beloved classics in these traditions, performed on common instruments in the region such as the lutes oud, bağlama, the zither qanun, and the drums darbuka and riqq.

The concert is free-seating for all ticket types. Net proceeds from ticket sales will go to non-profit organisations taking part in front line rescue and relief efforts in both countries.

Founded in 2018, The Nur Collective is a group of musicians and cultural workers with a shared passion for the musical traditions and cultures from westernmost China, through Central and West Asia to North Africa, with a mission to bring this exquisite cultural landscape to a wider public in Hong Kong through performing on traditional instruments of the region. Performances include the Freespace Jazz Festival 2021, the musical event “cartographic counterpoint #1 - From Persia, the sounds of Central Asia/ West Asia/the Western Regions” at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, as well as performances for the LCSD and for various local universities.

Supported organisations:
AHBAP (https://ahbap.org/) is a Turkish NGO working on search and rescue as well as in providing necessities such as shelter, food, and medical supplies in the disaster zone.
The White Helmets (https://www.whitehelmets.org/), officially known as the Syrian Civil Defence is a humanitarian organization working on rescue missions, aid provision, as well as recovery and rehabilitation work for earthquake survivors.
