Overview

A unique baroque dance workshop that you must not miss!

Ballet and baroque music have their roots in baroque dance. Dance was essential for a noble education in the court of Louis XIV, and a prerequisite for the honnête homme ( cultivated gentleman ) in full control of his body and mind. In 1661, King Louis XIV of France founded the very first dance institution in Europe, Académie Royale de Danse. The king's dance teacher and the academy's director, Pierre Beauchamps, was highly influential in the development of ballet, most notably the codification of the five positions of the feet.

Historically informed practice leads to interdisciplinary exploration. Come discover the fascinating history and social norms of seventeenth-century France through studying the style, phrasing, tempo, and ornamentations of baroque music and dance.

With live music accompaniment performed on period instruments by Concerto da Camera, you are sure to have a fun and exceptional experience in this workshop.
