Autistic students perform on stage
“A Kid Story” premiered in 2010, with re-runs in 2011 and 2023. Young autistic students will perform in the fourth production, and aims to once again bring the public into the world of autistic individuals and their families, allowing audiences to experience the beauty of their lives.
The performance’s beneficiary, “Project Aspire”, focuses on providing education and support services for children with Asperger's Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Audiences will enjoy the performance while also helping more children and families in need.
“The normal one” Yan, watches her autistic sister, finding both joy and sorrow from the same source. With a subtle, delicate poetic touch, she recounts heartwarming stories filled with tears behind laughter, sincere and moving without being sentimental.
Growing up with her autistic sister, Yan decided to dedicate her career as a social worker to serving people with autism. Yet, despite her vast experience, she often feels exhausted and discouraged when faced with the unique behaviours and perceptions that autistic individuals have towards everything around them.
The lack of social resources, bureaucratic barriers in systems, the physical and mental stress of caring for the chronically ill, balancing the demands of her job with her caregiving responsibilities at home, and the ongoing struggle to understand her sister's inner world—all these challenges pile up like an endless race for Yan. They also reflect the relentless fight for survival faced by individuals on the autism spectrum.
