Nomade is a beautiful ambitious work created entirely through improvisation by Yusuke Sase and Kei Koganemaru, young rising stars at the forefront of Japan's jazz scene. The entire album is a suite. Its tense sound is extremely unique. Recorded at Taro Okamoto's atelier in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo.
Yusuke Sase is a young jazz trumpeter and composer from Hokkaido. Yusuke Sase grew up in a home filled with avant-garde sounds thanks to his music-loving parents. He picked up the trumpet in his elementary school brass band, and after falling in love with the Brecker Brothers and Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters, he set his sights on becoming a jazz musician. While studying at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, he began performing professionally and received numerous awards, including Best Soloist at the 44th Yamano Big Band Jazz Contest. He graduated at the top of his class, studying trumpet under Yoshiaki Fukuda and Tomonao Hara.Today, Yusuke is active across a wide range of projects centered around jazz—from live performances and commercial recordings to supporting artists on stage and in the studio. His performances include major festivals such as Fuji Rock, Summer Sonic and Asagiri Jam, as well as appearances at the iconic Blue Note Tokyo. In 2018, he finally got his hands on an accordion, an instrument he had long dreamed of playing. After years of dedicated practice, he has begun featuring it in recordings and live sessions as well.
Kei Koganemaru is a young guitarist and composer from Tokyo. He graduated from the Jazz Course at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music. Rooted in heavy metal, progressive rock, and jazz, Kei is an active guitarist working across a wide range of musical scenes both in Japan and abroad.He performs extensively as a live and recording musician, supporting a variety of artists and projects.
