Born in Hong Kong, Christy Cheung began her violin studies with Lee Wing Shun at the age of four. She holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and a Master of Arts (Performance) from the Royal Academy of Music, majored in the violin and minored in the viola. Her major
teachers include Michael Ma, Mayumi Fujikawa, Gian Paolo Peloso, violist Martin Outram, and studied chamber music under the tutelage of Ivan Chan. She was awarded the SAR Philharmonic Scholarship and Wong Wai Ming Memorial Scholarship.
Christy Cheung has been active in playing chamber music and orchestral music. Her ensemble groups were coached by the Shanghai Quartet and the Orion String Quartet, and performed in the 38th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. She has also worked under distinguished conductors including Jaap Van Zweden, Lio Kuokman, Yip Wing Sie, Edward Gardner, John Wilson and Robert Farkas.
Christy Cheung has participated in numerous overseas workshops and festivals. She has participated in the French May Arts Festival 2024, Reverie- A night of French Chamber Music. She was an active participant in Collegium Musicum in Germany, directed by Jeno Nyari and coached by Jenoe Koppandi and Eva Bindere. She was also a member in the 32nd Sommermusik Im Oberen Nagoldtal and participated in masterclasses by Zohrab Tadevosyàn, Alexandra Korobkina, Nathaniel Vallois, Daniel Phillips, Igor Yuzefovich, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Adrien La Marca and Zhang Man Chin.
Christy Cheung is currently a freelance member of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.
